I have gotten to know the lady in this article very well and have met her 23wk preemie (Natalie) who is now 7 years old. Brenda is such a wonderful mother and she has been an incredible encouragement to me in our journey with Calvin and Katharina. She and her husband are Christians and theyContinue reading “Five Ways to Support Preemie Parents”

Happy World Prematurity Day | November 17
Did you know about 15 million miracle babies are born preterm every year? There are 40-50 million babies aborted every year… They don’t have the opportunity to thrive and be cared for by amazing medical teams, and their families miss out on experiencing the grace of God through their lives. Our twins were born atContinue reading “Happy World Prematurity Day | November 17”
Clouds and Mountains and Stars
CLOUDS AND MOUNTAINS AND STARSFrom “Thoughts to Make Your Heart Sing”By Sally Lloyd-Jones & Jago(A gift from a little friend whose mom works in the NICU) Have you noticed that when it’s cloudy you can’t see the stars? And that sometimes clouds can hide even mountains from you? For a moment it seems as ifContinue reading “Clouds and Mountains and Stars”
Katharina is Home!
Corey and I are excited to have one of our preemies home and we know you share in our excitement! I have taken this information from the Canadian Premature Babies Foundation and have modified it slightly for our family: Though we have left the NICU, we have brought home many of the practices and habitsContinue reading “Katharina is Home!”
Another Update…
Calvin has been in the Paediatric Critical Care Unit for three weeks now. He was moved here because he has outgrown the NICU and yet remains in critical care. This unit is experienced in caring for babies with BPD (bronchopulmonary dysplasia), a chronic lung disease that Calvin was diagnosed with early on. Many premature babiesContinue reading “Another Update…”
Discharged Again!
Katharina was discharged (for the third time!) yesterday after another 8 days in the hospital. She still isn’t taking full bottles for every feed so was discharged with a feeding tube (NG). I am so happy to have her back with me again and the two of us enjoyed some cuddles with Calvin today!
Katharina’s Re-admittance
Since her original discharge, Katharina has been having some vomiting spells and has trouble clearing her airway. I took her to emerge one night in September after she took too long to recover and passed out (so scary!). She had been readmitted to the NICU for four nights at the beginning of October to beContinue reading “Katharina’s Re-admittance”
Moving Out of the NICU…
Calvin graduated from the NICU this past Saturday at 140 days old and made the move to PCCU. We are grateful for fresh eyes and different/new medications that can be used in helping our little boy grow stronger. Even small blessings like beautiful windows in Calvin’s new room, being allowed to bring in a snackContinue reading “Moving Out of the NICU…”
Post-Surgery Update
Calvin was back in his room today just before noon. The anesthesiologist said surgery went well. Unfortunately, his CO2 levels were getting too high so they were unable to get the right hernia repaired. However, they got the broviac line inserted and repaired the left hernia (which was the bad one). He will be onContinue reading “Post-Surgery Update”
Surgery is Tomorrow
Tomorrow (Friday) at 8am, Calvin will be having surgery to repair his bilateral hernias and insert a broviac line. Following his last hernia surgery, Calvin was on the borderline of not making it; therefore, his medical team is very concerned about significant risks in his recovery this time. God knows Calvin’s needs and what GodContinue reading “Surgery is Tomorrow”
