Feeding Tube Surgeries | Update #4

Calvin made the move back to the paeds floor at noon today and I was able to bring Katharina for a visit this evening. This fella was SO EXCITED to have his sister beside him! They haven’t seen each other since November and he was loving every moment! 😍 Kat was just focused on Calvin’s trach maskContinue reading “Feeding Tube Surgeries | Update #4”

Feeding Tube Surgeries | Update #3

Katharina had a spurt with no pain meds for a number of hours this morning. She is up to 30mL every hour of continuous feeds ( = 90mL every 3hrs). The goal is 90mL over one hour so they will slowly be working that back today and tomorrow. The dietician has scheduled it out thatContinue reading “Feeding Tube Surgeries | Update #3”

Feeding Tube Surgeries | Update #2

Calvin is doing wonderfully! He remains off the ventilator, oxygenating well and was sleeping soundly when I left the hospital tonight. He needed a dose of morphine before shift change but is otherwise great. Both babes will be on Tylenol and Advil around the clock for the first bit to help with pain, as wellContinue reading “Feeding Tube Surgeries | Update #2”

Feeding Tube Surgeries | Update #1: Out of Surgeries!

Thank you for everyone’s prayers today! Katharina’s surgery went very well. It took just over a half hour and Dr. Jones was happy with everything! I was able to see her in PACU (Post Anesthesia Care Unit) around 4pm. She was given morphine during surgery which made her extremely drowsy so took a long timeContinue reading “Feeding Tube Surgeries | Update #1: Out of Surgeries!”

Surgery #4 for Calvin

Calvin will be having surgery at 11am tomorrow (Monday) for a J-tube (jejunal). This is similar to Katharina’s surgery in that it is a feeding tube; however, hers will be placed directly into her stomach by a paediatric surgeon (Dr. Jones) while Calvin’s will be placed directly into the small intestine by an interventional radiologist.Continue reading “Surgery #4 for Calvin”

Katharina’s Upcoming Surgery

Katharina is doing so well! She weighs 13lbs and has lots of chunky rolls, smiles and chitter-chatters all the time, sleeps at least 7-8 hours every night, enjoys her Mommy’s singing, and loves her Daddy more than anyone else in the whole wide world. This coming Monday at 1:30pm, Katharina will be having surgery toContinue reading “Katharina’s Upcoming Surgery”

10 Days ’til Christmas

I would have never imagined what I experience on a daily basis now: toys scattered throughout the living room, a baby swing beside the Christmas tree, plastic dishes all over the kitchen floor, cardboard box houses taking up a portion of the piano studio, never-ending loads of laundry, bath time toys beside the tub, endlessContinue reading “10 Days ’til Christmas”

Surgery for Calvin: Tracheostomy

This morning, Calvin had a tracheostomy: a surgical procedure to insert a breathing tube into his neck. He handled the entire procedure so well – he was in 60% FiO2 and never once dropped in his oxygen saturations! Presently, he is back on his tube feeds at half the amount and they will slowly workContinue reading “Surgery for Calvin: Tracheostomy”
