Days Until Discharge: 13 👍
Time is flying. Calvin will be home with us in less than two weeks and it’s going to be here before we know it. The time between then and now is packed – something is happening almost every day!
➡️ Thursday (7th): We have a discharge meeting at 2:30pm to discuss all of the practicalities of Calvin’s discharge and his medical care outside of the hospital.
➡️ Friday (8th): We have been asked to be at a presentation as an ambassador family for the Children’s Health Foundation. They will be talking about a donation that has been made towards an echocardiography for the NICU – a machine that a specially-trained neonatologist uses to do an ultrasound of a baby’s heart right at the bedside and see what is causing heart issues. Both Calvin and Katharina needed these ultrasounds within the first week of their life, and many times to follow for Calvin. Corey will be sharing about the twins’ journey in the NICU. Pray for those who are attending this presentation as they hear about our faith in Christ through trials even in just this short five minute blurb. Also, this will be Calvin’s first official “outing” – and a good practice run for us!
➡️ Monday (11th): Calvin will have his first Developmental Follow-up appointment in the clinic – another excellent practice run for us!
➡️ Tuesday (12th): Corey’s third (and final) trach change to complete his training.
➡️ Wednesday (13th): Corey, myself and my mother-in-law will be taking our specialized CPR course for Calvin’s care.
➡️ Thursday (14th): My third (and final) trach change to complete my training. I will be spending the entire day with Calvin to practice independent care for him.
➡️ Monday (18th): Calvin’s fifth (and final) RSV shot
➡️ Tuesday (19th): HOME TIME! Whaaaat?!?!
Best news of all: Calvin tried a bottle for the *very first time* today! He took 15mL (half an ounce) and did SO GREAT! This is such a big deal! We used sugar water instead of formula just in case he happened to aspirate any of it. If he keeps up this good work, we’ll transition to formula soon. It will be a very long time before he can take a full bottle – if ever – but just experiencing this little step of progress is so exciting! There was a time when we were told bottling, among countless other things, would be something Calvin would never be able to do. Our God is a miracle worker!
