Days Until Discharge: 28 š
Unfortunately, Calvin was transferred back to PCCU overnight because of increased work in breathing and needing to be put back on the ventilator. Over the last few days, he has been showing signs of being sick and his oxygen saturations were quite low last night when Corey visited.
He was requiring as much as 50% FiO2 when he first arrived in PCCU but is down to 35% now with a peep of 7. He tested positive for Influenza A and is on antibiotics for this. His x-ray points to pneumonia in his left lung as well but being on the ventilator should help so that is a blessing!

As much as Calvin has been a very “sick” baby from the beginning, this is the very first time (praise the Lord!) that he has caught a “bug”. It has reminded us how easily Calvin can catch something and how hard it can be on him. I have mentioned it before, but his lungs are just so fragile that we have to be extremely careful about avoiding sicknesses in our home for a very long time once he is discharged. He could end up back in PCCU so easily…
At this point, the influenza shouldn’t effect his discharge date, as long as he recovers well and can come off the ventilator over the next few days!
