Calvin made the move back to the paeds floor at noon today and I was able to bring Katharina for a visit this evening. This fella was SO EXCITED to have his sister beside him! They haven’t seen each other since November and he was loving every moment! 😍 Kat was just focused on Calvin’s trach mask string and eventually started playing with it in her hand. We video chatted with Daddy, big sister and Nana and then the three of us hung out together for an hour before we had to head back to Katharina’s room. So fun!
They may be moving Kat to Calvin’s room tomorrow but that hasn’t been decided on yet. For me, even just having them on the same floor is amazing! Going back and forth between different areas of the hospital since Monday has been keeping me very busy, that’s for sure, so I’m happy they’re just down the hall from each other now.
Katharina is up to a rate of 75mL every hour and handling these very well. She hasn’t needed any pain medication since 11pm last night! I am now running her feed pump and giving all her meds through her G-tube, and we will be heading home on Saturday! Calvin is also handling his feeds well and hasn’t needed any medication since last night!
Corey and I have been taught how to suction Calvin’s trach and are doing that every time we’re visiting, and next week, we will be learning how to change his trach. I have been meeting many new faces this week who will be involved in Calvin’s care here on the paeds floor and who will be continuing with him after his discharge: nurse practitioners, physicians, dieticians, occupational therapists, social workers, family advisors, care coordinators and more! It can be overwhelming at times, but every person has been amazing to work with so far.
Continue to pray for our family as we prepare for Calvin coming home. There are so many things that have to fall into place before that can happen, but that is for another update at another time.
