Feeding Tube Surgeries | Update #1: Out of Surgeries!

Thank you for everyone’s prayers today!

Katharina’s surgery went very well. It took just over a half hour and Dr. Jones was happy with everything! I was able to see her in PACU (Post Anesthesia Care Unit) around 4pm. She was given morphine during surgery which made her extremely drowsy so took a long time to wake up. She also had some trouble getting her oxygen sats where they should be following surgery, so they put her on low-flow (1L) to help with that. They were able to wean it over the evening and turned it off altogether around 8pm.

She is very sleepy and has big crying spurts every now and then – likely due to pain and discomfort – so is only content in Mommy’s arms. I’m planning to stay at a hotel tonight (RMH was full so they booked me a room at the Best Western), but will hang out here with Katharina if she’s not doing well through the night.

Calvin came through his surgery wonderfully as well! Corey spent the day with him while I stayed with Katharina so I don’t have that much info on him. I was able to sneak over for five minutes to see Calvin while Katharina was being operated on but have otherwise not seen him so I’m planning to pop over to his unit sometime this evening. He was back on the trach mask (off the ventilator) within no time – praise the Lord! – and will remain in PCCU for tonight. The plan is to have him back on the paeds floor by tomorrow evening if all continues to go well! I will post some photos of him later on with a better update.
